Montclair Holds Off Cortland 16-7
October 10, 2009. The Montclair State Red Hawks stayed undefeated in the NJAC by stopping Cortland 16-7 Saturday in Montclair, New Jersey.
Dominique Dixon returned a 16-yard interception for a touchdown with 51 seconds remaining to seal the victory for the Red Hawks. Cortland had pulled to within 9-7 late in the fourth quarter on a one yard touchdown run by Dom Sair.
Brian Wiley led the defense with two sacks, five tackles for losses, and 12 tackles overall. Cody Allen added 11 tackles. Sophomore corner D.J. Romano had two tackles, a pass break-up, and an interception.
The Cortland defense held the home standing Red Hawks to only 229 total yards, but the Cortland offense mustered only 202 yards of its own and turned the football over three times. The struggles continued for the Cortland rushing game, which gained only 35 yards on 26 carries.
Cortland fell to 3-2 on the season in the NJAC and overall. Montclair is 4-0 in the NJAC and 4-1 overall. Cortland hosts West Conn next Saturday at 1 P.M.
