Freshman Steven Lenhart NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week

9/25/2009

Freshman safety Steven Lenhart has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Rookie of the Week for week three.  Lenhart played virtually the entire game on defense after starting free safety Chris Hanlon was injured on the first Cortland defensive play.  Lenhart stepped in admirably, forcing a fumble and making four solo tackles in Cortland's 24-14 victory over conference rival Rowan University.

On his first defensive play from scrimmage last Saturday, Lenhart hit Rowan running back Ryan Leafey causing a fumble. Jamell Scott recovered the football for Cortland and returned it 5 yards to the Rowan 41-yard line.  The turnover set up a Cortland touchdown.

The Cortland defense was integral in stifling a strong Rowan offense, holding the Rowan Profs to only 14 points.

Steven is younger brother of junior linebacker James Lenhart.  Steven and James combined for 8 tackles against Rowan on Saturday.  The Lenharts graduated from Ticonderoga High School.
